I have heard of airlines selling cheap last minute flights from Melbourne to Christchurch, sometimes only about $30 one way. I think tey usually do it on fridays but can’t manage to find anything. Has anyone had any experience with this?

I remember some of my friends got cheaper flights on virgin once, but I think that was just a booking special and it was a domestic flight anyways. But hopefully that site will give you some good deals
